Quiz La Islamoteca, a new game to dismantle prejudices about Islam

By Fundación de Cultura Islámica · On 28 January, 2022

The Islamic Culture Foundation (FUNCI) has launched the Quiz La Islamoteca, a new tool (in Spanish) to fight Islamophobia and racism, as well as to raise awareness of Islamic culture. This initiative has been co-financed by the Foundation Pluralismo y Convivencia.

Quiz La Islamoteca was created with the aim of broadening knowledge about the Muslim civilization and culture, through educational tools and balanced and rigorous information. With this, FUNCI wishes to contribute to the rapprochement between different communities, and to eradicate the clichés and prejudices surrounding the Muslim population, improving the perception towards them.

The Quiz is a digital game of questions and answers about Islam and its culture, which aims to bring users closer to this reality, providing them with critical arguments that allow them to combat stereotypes. It includes two levels of play: a general level and a second level for children to be developed in schools. The game is divided into five main themes: 1. Islam as a religious practice; 2. the history of Islam and al-Andalus; 3. our common heritage; 4. the diversity of the Muslim population; 5. the representation of Muslims in our society.

The tool presented is part of FUNCI’s new initiative, La Islamoteca, a new line of action that aims to develop activities that promote knowledge about Islamic culture, as well as to promote an open and multicultural society.

In order to achieve these objectives, FUNCI will present the project in different educational centers, NGOs and social and cultural associations, in collaboration with public administrations.

Thus, students and teachers will be able to carry out the activity in a dynamic and active way both in class and at home. In addition, its digital format also allows full accessibility from any geographical location, therefore aiming to bring an often unknown world closer to the population.

This is one of the originality points of this project, as it can be carried out both in the classroom and at home with the family, which broadens the scope of the project, focusing not only on children, but also on the family environment.
