One of the arguments most used when criticizing or rejecting Islam is the oppression of women promoted by this religion, denying any role played by women in Islamic societies or History, as well as any way of women empowerment. Thus, Islamophobia acts by reducing all women to the usual submissive cliché to which we have got used to. This article tries to combat this prejudice by showing different cases of active and committed women who fight in order to make their societies a better place:
“As the new year begins, we take a look at nine inspirational women from the Middle East that you might not have heard of before. Among them, there is Zaina Erhaim is a Syrian journalist who was living in London before she returned to Aleppo to risk her life under barrel bombs to cover the Syrian conflict. Also the Palestinian women who defended al-Aqsa Mosque.
Mahienour al-Massry, is an Egyptian human rights activist and lawyer and one of 51,000 political detainees imprisoned in Egypt. Radiya al Massry is a Yemeni human rights activist documenting atrocities on both sides of the Yemeni conflict that has claimed thousands of lives.
