The last video of Amazon, published as part of its winter campaign, sends a great message that breaks with the discursive tendency in which we are currently living.
The video shows two friends, an Imam and a priest, that meet in order to have a cup of tea. When they leave, worried about the knee pains both of them are suffering, they decide to make each other a present. The two of them find out in surprise that they have decided to act in the same way.
The video’s message is clear: people from different religions can get on well, be friends and care about each other. As Zubeir Hassam, Imam both in the video and in real life, declares:
“I honestly didn’t think about it – I think the message is very good – people from different backgrounds can share gifts and can see each other,” he said. ““With all the bad publicity we have got this is a very, very positive ad showing that people of different faiths can get together.”
The advertisement has been understood as a rejection of the opinions and statements made by US future President, Donald Trump, during his electoral campaign, through which he encouraged hate towards Islam and the criminalization of the Muslim population living in the country. Unfortunately, this kind of speech is becoming common all around Europe.
Thus, we must celebrate this bet for diversity, respect, and the understanding between cultures and religions. We hope that through this kind of actions, this speech will become the rule and not the exception.
