This article, submitted by our collaborator Jan Dulac, and first published in the Moroccan newspaper Morocco World News, deepens on the rise of Islamophobia and the misconceptions currently existing about Islam. Thus the article tries to turn those notions around, by relying on History, commenting, for example, on the importance of Islam for Europe’s development during the Middle Age, and on the values promoted by Islam’s sacred texts, such as the promotion of peace and tolerance in the Quran.
Finally, the author ends by offering several recommendations on how to create an atmosphere of tolerance among cultures and religions. Thus, the promotion of religious knowledge among the population, the disregard for Islamophobic arguments or for self-claimed religious movements, and the insistence on the importance of civil society initiatives find themselves among the steps and tools that must be implemented in order to fight this growing prejudice.
